Rama Sawaf Duwaji, born on June 30, 1997, is an American animator, illustrator, and ceramist of Syrian descent. Raised in Houston and later in Dubai, she holds a BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University and an MFA in Illustration from the School of Visual Arts in New York. Her artwork, which explores Arab identity, social justice, and diaspora, has been featured in The New Yorker, The Washington Post, BBC, Apple, Spotify, and Tate Modern. She is married to politician Zohran Mamdani and will become First Lady of New York City in January 2026.
