Chicago is the 2nd largest Polish city in the world, and has more Polacks than any city in the world outside of Warsaw. I grew up hearing many Polish jokes about how stupid Polish people are. Let me tell you, much of that is true. Polacks aren’t the smartest people and the smartest ones did not come over during the massive migration waves from the 1860’s through about the 2000’s. Now that’s changing quite a bit, the Polish immigrants in Chicago know no longer have that reputation of being dumber than a box of rocks, and the Polish families are increasingly leaving the Polish conclaves in the city, as Chicago absorbs hundreds of thousands of illegal third world migrants, and the Polish are integrating themselves into local communities in ways like they never have before. The Polish kids, at least in my community, tend to do extremely well in school, excel in sports, and attend the best state colleges and get good corporate jobs, which is the exact opposite of the big dumb Polack image of the previous 100 years.
