No, it's not actually possible even at a theoretical level to detect whether something is AI or not. The only things they "detect" are things that are common characteristics of AI, but that doesn't work, because the reason those things are common in AI is because they're also common in real photos or human art. So no, they will not and can not ever get better. It's an inherent impossibility of the tech.

Not yet sure it is. I’ve seen various versions of it, including one where it’s cast in shadow. I’m not sure if it’s a real one that’s been brightened and clarified by AI. A lot of the ones people were convinced were AI have turned out to be real a few days later. There’s one picture going round that is very clearly AI, and I haven’t posted it for that reason. It’s circulating on spam etc and it becomes pretty obvious it can’t be real when you look at it for a few seconds. The jury’s still out on this one I think
