Calderdale child abuser jailed after victim was pushed to self-harm

A Sheffield teenager pushed to self-harm and suicide attempts after being sexually assaulted as a young girl, bravely faced her attacker in court to see him being sent to prison.

The courageous 17-year-old watched as Philip Sutcliffe, 58, of Throstle Nest Farm, Hipperholme, was sentenced to four years in prison at Sheffield Crown Court after he admitted to abusing her in 2014.

The girl, who was 13-years-old when the abuse took place, opted to take to the stand and read her victim impact statement to the court.

She explained how since the abuse took place her life began to unravel.

“After he abused me I started to self-harm and it progressively got worse,” said the girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons.

She added: “I got referred to the child and adolescent mental health team but my self-harm got worse and at times I ended up in hospital for my self-harm and suicide attempts.

“I was diagnosed with depression and post traumatic stress disorder because of the flashbacks I suffered. These were daily occurrences for the six weeks. When I went back to school I found it was too stressful to go back to full-time education.

“Coming out of hospital, I intended to overdose in an attempt to take my own life.”

The young woman concluded by saying the trauma she experienced as a result of his abuse had ‘broken’ her family.

Sentencing Sutcliffe, Judge Peter Kelson QC commended the young woman’s bravery.

“An aggravating feature [in this case] is the severe psychological harm you have caused your victim, who has shown remarkable courage,” said Judge Kelson.

“I must say that no sentence I can pass can give her her health back and help her to recover those lost years. This court can only send out a message that this type of offence will receive harsh punishment.”

In addition to his four year prison sentence, Judge Kelson also Sutcliffe the subject of an indefinite sexual harm prevention order, which prevents him from living with or spending any time with any child under the age of 16 without their parents’ permission.

Defending Sutcliffe, Quentin Hunt said the 58-year-old was truly sorry for his actions and acknowledged ‘mea culpa’ for this offence.

The court was also told how Sutcliffe had previously been convicted of indecently assaulting two girls, one aged 15 and one aged 16, in 2002.

Sutcliffe met the girls after placing an advertisement in a shop window for teenage girls to work on his farm on weekends.

He was also convicted of the possession of hundreds of depraved images of children in sexual acts, which he claimed he had downloaded as part of his efforts to stop breach of copyright on pictures and videos from his own adult porn business of which he was a director.

Porn king jailed over indecent child photos

A PORN king was jailed for 18 months yesterday after hundreds of indecent pictures of children were found stored on his personal computers.

Philip Joseph Sutcliffe (43) of Throstle Nest Farm, Denholme Gate Road, Hipperholme, admitted three offences of making indecent photographs of a child.

He was also sentenced for three offences of indecent assault and two offences of taking indecent photographs following a trial at Bradford Crown Court last year.

Sutcliffe was ordered to pay 3,500 costs and he has been placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for 10 years.

Leeds Crown Court heard that Sutcliffe ran Fiona Cooper, an Elland company which supplies adult videos and sex toys and had an internet site.

Mr Jeffrey Lewis, prosecuting, said the offences went back to 2000 after Sutcliffe placed an advertisement in a garage shop window for girls aged between 14 and 18 to work on his farm at weekends.

He said: “Three young girls responded. The oldest girl was 15 and each was paid 20 a day.

“On March 4, 2000, Sutcliffe made sexual advances towards one girl and recorded those events with a video camera.

Mr Lewis said Sutcliffe also took photographs of the girl but Sutcliffe maintained he thought she was 16. The police became involved after the girls’ parents contacted social services staff and, on March 23, Sutcliffe was arrested.

The police then executed search warrants and raided his home and business premises.

Three computers were seized and a number of indecent images of children were found stored on the hard drive.

Mr Lewis said there was no evidence Sutcliffe had profited financially from the images but there was evidence to suggest he had been in touch with other people interested in paedophilia.

Miss Sasha Wass QC, for Sutcliffe, said he would visit internet sites to check Fiona Cooper material was not being used without permission.

She said this was how the indecent images came to be on his computers.

Passing sentence, Judge Scott Wolsten-holme, said that was a smoke screen designed to conceal the fact that Sutcliffe was sexually excited by the indecent photographs of children. He said the pictures were of the most grave kind.

Whoa. So that throws a new angle on this stuff. Presume the offending FC footage was destroyed or removed from circulation? Obviously the videos posted here are of adults.

Think it's all been cleaned up. Not sure who "owns" the FC library but they seem to get clips taken down pretty quickly. There is some great stuff on there but why did he have to put that 70s muzak on some of the vids!!¡
