Unfortunately after her strenuous press tour, the new Marvel film “Madame Web” was dead on arrival. Dakota claimed in an interview that she hasn’t even watched her own film as a form of ‘self-care’! Over six days, Sony is estimating a $15.2 million weekend and a six-day $25.8 million haul. Audiences (a C+ CinemaScore) agreed with critics (13% “fresh”).

I just hope the commercial failure of what was already an artistic failure doesn’t get in the way of Dakota leading less commercial films that actually have cinematic value, especially since those films are the reason she booked “Madame Web” in the first place. It’s also the reason she did the “50 Shades” trilogy (and the same is true for Jamie Dornan). She’s done Shakespeare. Her two films with Luca Guadagnino are excellent, as is “Our Friend” and “The Lost Daughter.” Whenever someone says Dakota’s a bad actress they’re just revealing that they have shit taste in films. They’ve seen her in an unserious work like “50 Shades Darker” but they’ve never even heard of “A Bigger Splash”, and yet they want to tell me about the quality of her acting? Smh.
