Doutzen Kroes was born 23 January 1985 in Eastermar, the small Dutch town. After graduating from high school, she sent her pictures to a modeling agency. Now she’s one of the highest paid supermodels in the world.
In 2005, Doutzen Kroes was chosen as the best model of Vogue. In 2006, she signed with the cosmetic brand L’oreal Paris. In 2007 in the May issue of American Vogue she was featured on the cover along with models Hilary Rhoda, Carolyn Trentini, Raquel Zimmermann, Sasha Pivovarova, Agnes Dean, Coco Rocha, Jessica Stam, Chanel Iman and Lily Donaldson, where they were presented as the new generation of supermodels.
Doutzen Kroes is the only known models, including Victoria’s Secret Angels, who got into the modeling business on her own. Unlike most of the girls found the scouts of the major agencies (like Kate Moss or Natalia Vodianova), noticed photographers (like Carolina Kurkova) or winning the competition (as Heidi Klum and Adriana Lima), Doutzen sent her photos to the agency herself. However, the beauty was seen even in low-quality pics.
Doutzen Kroes has appeared on the covers of Time, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Numéro, and many others. Participated in advertising campaigns for Calvin Klein, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Versace, etc. She’s also one of Victoria’s Secret Angels. Was photographed for the Pirelli calendar in 2008.
Doutzen is friends with models Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Selita Ebanks, Karolina Kurkova, Miranda Kerr, Heidi Klum, Marisa Miller, and Candice Swanepoel.
Doutzen is married to DJ Sunnery James, who she dated for 14 months before their wedding. The couple has two children.
Doutzen Kroes belongs to the small nation of the Frisians (about 420 thousand people) living in the Netherlands and in Northwest Germany. The second name Kroes is a Dutch surname. However, the first name Doutzen – Frisian girl’s name (means “Dove”).
