Although it was great for her career and is a beautiful film, “Portrait of a Lady on Fire” isn’t her best film/performance or even Céline Sciamma’s best film. Had it been released before Hell vomited out #MeToo upon the West, the film would likely still be acclaimed but there’s no way in hell that femifascists on Reddit and social media, completely ignorant of cinema outside of the Anglo-Saxon world (an increasing number watch some East Asian television, but precious few of those bitches have seen much East Asian cinema), would be praising the film and its “female gaze.”
