Let’s talk about Gong Li. She’s known for killin’ it in the films Breaking the Silence and The Story of Qiu Ju, baggin’ Golden Rooster and Golden Phoenix awards. Plus, she crushed it in Curse of the Golden Flower, scoring a Hong Kong Film Award. In 2018, she joined the cast of the live-action remake of Disney’s Mulan.
Back in the day, she scored the lead role in her debut film, Red Sorghum, while studying at Beijing’s Central Academy of Drama. She also rocked it in Raise the Red Lantern, a 1991 flick that got an Academy Award nomination in the foreign language category.
Born to Gong Lize and Liu Ying, she grew up in Shenyang, China. After a high-profile relationship with director Zhang Yimou, she tied the knot with business exec Ooi Hoe Soeng; they split in 2010 after fourteen years together. Oh, and she teamed up with Jeremy Irons in the English-language film Chinese Box.
